The USS Lexington at Corpus Christi, Texas
The GMC Classics summer rally at Portland, Texas was on the coast right across the bridge from Corpus Christi. The Schusters’ Sea Breeze Campground was at the water. Although Texas in July is always hot, the strong sea breeze kept it pleasant.
On Friday, the women drew the inside air-conditioned area and
the tech session was held in a well ventilated cabana area which
was also used for additional dining area. The silent auction brought
a lot of GMC goodies. GMC’s were mostly located near the
water but additional parking was provided throughout the rest
of the campground. A great
seafood dinner was cooked Friday evening. Sorry I did not get
any pictures of the women’s event, perhaps someone could
send some in.
Several interesting sites in Corpus Christi included the Lexington, a WWII aircraft carrier, the aquarium and a replica of Columbus’ ships."
